“Tides,” Odegard
I was looking through old interior design magazines and spotted this gorgeous rug in Domino c. 2007.
Odegard is part of the Rugmark Foundation, which campaigns against child labor.
This simple, restful design has me obsessed. I have a stash of Eco Wool that I’m thinking of knitting into a sweater with a similar stripe pattern.
For those of you who were also madly addicted to the sadly short-lived Domino mag, you will be thrilled to find it online.
Today I might be wearing
Monkey socks, my chunky Quoddy boots, pants, a dress, a shirt, a sweater, a Bandana Cowl, and a Snail Hat.
I might also look like a crazy knitter.
I love chilly weather.

I want to make something like this and you can’t stop me.
Suno Chunky Hand Knit Vest, $890
A few of my favorite things

Rich espresso, good gelato, and two color brioche stitch.
Pushing Daisies.
How did I miss this show? I LOVE it. And Emerson knits. Check out the file folder cosy.

A friend I made in Ecuador spinning yarn on a hand spindle. This can be said about any country, but I am particularly impressed by the textiles of Ecuador. You can see the woven tapestries in the background — the bright, stylized silhouettes representing the people of the land. See how the tapestries hang? They have been woven continuously on a loom, and must be cut apart. Note the presence of pottery in the tableaux, and the dress of the figures. This style of dress is conventional in many parts of the country. We (my Mom, sister, and I) were in total admiration of their clothing, and found stores that sold the pieces at very high prices. Thanks to tourism, the Ecuadorians are quite aware of the value of their work. You will also catch a glimpse of several knitted sweaters decorated with alpacas, suns, and geometric designs.
I indulged in a woven, alpaca scarf. When I asked how I should clean it, the vendor told me to brush it. I won’t argue with that — I like low-maintenance.
Once upon a time, knitting needles were called knitting pins. I think it’s more fitting.
