Confession Time
I recently finished several months-old projects in an attempt to cleanse my mind and space. But my knitting rotation is still backed up. Here’s what is on the needles: Brioche stitch cuff mittens with Stitch Nation Bamboo Ewe — the body of the mittens will be striped with Louisa Harding La Saluta mohair. Both in a frosty blue-green color. These are for a friend. Damson in...

Yarn Shame.
I am [not] proud to admit that I single-handedly kept Malabrigo in business this week. Get your hands on Twist and Rasta — ooohh the colors!

Brioche
As in, the delicious eggy bread — or, the delicious magical stitch. Two skeins of springy Malabrigo Twist and 6mm needles make a handsome and generously sized cowl. Here come the internet-worthy “holding-the-camera-in-front-of-self” shots: A slouchy cowl is what I love. Love. This. Cowl. I freakin’ love this cowl with midnight hair! I freakin’ love this...

Ooh it's the Classic Cable Cap
Perhaps it’s a little early to be thinking of fall wear, but I couldn’t wait to share this new hat. It’s in my Etsy shop, and is available in different colors.

Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave
I’m watching it because I hear it has yarn in it. Watching a movie about knitting whilst knitting…too far?

I watched The Grocer's Son (Le fils de l'épicier).
Great film. SPOILER ALERT I love the large, knitted shawls the older ladies in the village wear — a dense enough pattern to keep you warm, but lacy enough to be decorative. One in particular struck me with its flirty, ruffly edge. I’m currently hunting Ravelry to find something similar so I can use the Rowan Purelife cotton I recently acquired. (It’s in this wispy grey color...

Hi DC knitters,
A new yarn store opened today in Dupont: Looped Yarn Works Why is this the first I’ve heard of this — and from another yarn store!

Amber
For the last week I haven’t been inspired to free-form knit, so I’ve been using patterns. Knitting without a pattern is a great exercise, but following a pattern can be equally satisfying. The first pattern was the Cupcake from One Skein by Leigh Radford. Yes, I could have made a cupcake by myself. But part of the fun of using a pattern is getting into the designer’s head to see...

Do you, too, get excited
when you see characters on screen knitting? Saw a cartoon the other day of a baby moose with yarn wrapped around his antlers whilst the mommy moose wound it into a ball.

I had the immense pleasure of visiting Loop of the Loom and not only got a weaving lesson from an erudite ten-year-old boy, but spoke with the lovely and kind founder and artist Yukako. She introduced to me SAORI weaving and I even got to tiptoe in her studio — in barefoot formality, as there are no outdoor shoes worn in the studio. SAORI is a Japanese idea and art form founded by Misao Jo that...

No-sew daisy.
I have been crocheting flowers, and during my search for a daisy pattern I was disappointed to find only the cartoon-like variety or more realistic interpretations that required sewing. I don’t like to sew things after knitting or crocheting them — I think part of the beauty of these crafts is the ability to form a three dimensional piece without having to sew. Hence, I made my own...

Toxic coral.
I found this yarn at a yard sale. It is unlike anything I have seen — before I was around, yarn industries got really creative with the synthetics. It is 100% Polypropylene Olefin, it’s hot pink, and it looks like styrofoam roving. I actually love this yarn and it was perfect for my purpose. Here is some interesting information on the Olefin fiber from Fiber Source. The pattern...
