Helmer: […] Is this your knitting? Mrs. Linde (taking it): Yes, thank you, I’d almost forgotten it. Helmer: So you knit? Mrs. Linde: Yes, of course. Helmer: You know, you ought to embroider. Mrs. Linde: Really? Why? Helmer: It’s much more graceful-looking. Here, let me show you. You hold the embroidery this way in your left hand, and use the needle with your right, like this, in...

Socks are being blocked on cleverly bent clothes hangers. I am positively delighted with the way the colors unfolded into the pattern!

thebrassknuckles: spundone: I love Raleigh so I’ll start there. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on craigslist, that will likely be the cheapest option and you never know if you might find a gem. This is the 2010 version of my ride: http://www.raleighusa.com/bikes/road/one-way/ It’s a great bike (about $700)… Thank you for the advice - the Raleigh and Globe bikes are a price I can live...

One of the great things about riding a scooter is that when you see something shiny on the road and you want it, all you have to do is lean over and pick it up!

Once upon a time, knitting needles were called knitting pins. I think it’s more fitting.

Which are you… Yarn first or pattern first? Test swatch or learn the hard way? Video or pictorial tutorial? Online bargain or pay extra to keep the yarn shops alive? Knit for yourself or knit for others? Buy yarn when you want or wait until you’ve used your stash? Knit in public or only at home? Knit in groups or only alone?

KEEP CALM AND STOP RIPPING OFF A GOOD POSTER
thebrassknuckles: How many variations of an already perfect poster will I see online this week?  Over it! This is unsettling for me as well. The worst part isn’t that the hangers-on abuse an artist’s work, but that they undermine the original intent of the poster.

Multicolored yarn is an enigma.
It looks like this in a hank: Shows its pattern on a swift: Looks speckled when wound: Who knows what it will look like when it’s knitted!

…you hear an Etsy-drop? I’m frequently seeing Etsy items featured in big magazines, which makes me happy because people are embracing the unfamiliarity of buying from a person and not a faceless operation. Why, just last week I was watching Weeds and one of the characters mentioned that she bought her necklace from Etsy! There is still the issue that Etsy is being represented and not...

I love using Kidrobot zipper pulls as stitch markers! Currently working on the second sock of the Boyfriend Sock pattern. The last one took me four months to complete - this one is only taking two weeks. I tried tiny circular needles instead of double points and am loving it. The double points get in their own way, and working on two circulars is equally cumbersome. Try Hiya Hiya short...

Upcycle.
I’ve been stashing Pocky boxes, nice packaging from things I’ve purchased, and other interesting paper trash with the intent of making something useful. I finally cut the pieces into strips to use as bookmarks. I’m also acquiring a collection of old t-shirts and post-wearable clothing with the intent of cutting the pieces into strips to use as yarn. I made a yarnshelf from a...

Collectif France Tricot’s blog oft features photographs of the jubilant group on a yarn-bombing excursion. I want flashmob tricot friends! Where are all the spunky DC knitters? Knitting tumbleague, let’s go on a field trip! NYC anyone? Doesn’t this look fun?

There is something indelibly chic about things...
I have long fancied clear materials - the Goody headbands I’ve worn for years and have to buy again and again (they snap easily), the way Michael Kors sneaks the invisible into his shoes, the mid-century modern sofa punctuated with lucite feet I pined for in a magazine, Susan Bates Crystal Ice knitting needles, the TI-83 calculator I employed in high school, and the thick acrylic...

This is my plushie, śaśa — she is now a hare. I lost some of my initial enthusiasm and she has been waiting for ears for weeks.   śaśa is the Sanskrit word for hare. (That’s the only relevance here — I just like words!) I made her without use of a pattern. I didn’t even peek at one!
