I had my first knitting dream last night.
I was at at Michaels, the yarns were all mixed up in different aisles because the store was under construction, and when I found the yarn I wanted it was too high for me to reach! I think I’m spending too much time knitting.

Update on the sock debacle: I bought a stitch counter and, as suggested to me by Stitches and Purls, I made a chart. But still! More lessons to be learned - don’t cable and converse! You may notice one of my cables is turned the wrong way. Adds charm. This is the Boyfriend Sock pattern on Ravelry. I’m working with Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine and 2mm DPNs.

Blue sky, white ground.
DC is covered in a mound of snow. Roads icy. Buses cancelled. Metro on limited service. Un-scooter-able conditions. What is a girl to do but finish last-minute Christmas gifts and rip up some old t-shirts to use as yarn? Maybe do some sketching, write some nonograms, or make some new clothes for Rosie the Barbie? Although it would be a shame to let this snow pass without a snowball fight or a...

Words cannot represent the sensual heaven of working with Malabrigo wool. I could sit and pet the stuff all day. Right now I’m working on the Mondo Cable Cap in Malabrigo worsted Déjà Vu. This yarn makes me happy!

the REAL cost of buying handmade

If someone finds it too expensive, they can buy the same junk as everyone else! We have the mindset of always looking for a bargain, but the worth of our purchases is more comprehensive than that. ...

Everything went wrong. Been here?
I’m halfway through a sock I’ve been working on bit by bit for the last few days. This is my first attempt at making a sock, and of course I have to choose one knit with size zero needles and oh yeah - tiny cables. I buy this intimidatingly thin alpaca yarn, and I forget to wind it at my LYS. I can’t wait to start my project so I decide to knit from the hank, but this soon...

Poma France's design for Medellín's Metrocable
This design won the 2009 Brit Insurance Designs of the Year award. The Metrocable is a system like a ski lift, but for the people who live on the hillsides of Medellín it is an indispensable mode of transportation. The steep sides of the city are home to some of the poorest, most populated neighborhoods, and the Metrocable offers these residents convenient access to the valley in a style...
